Former General Secretary of the NATTS (Pan Trinbago's forerunner), Julian Goddard dies in New York

February 07, 2011 General by George D. Goddard

Julian Goddard, former General Secretary of the National Steelbands Association of Trinidad & Tobago Steelbandsmen (Pan Trinbago's forerunner) died in New York over the weekend. He was the youngest brother of George "Sonny" Goddard, and Pelham Goddard's and journalist Peter Ray Blood's uncle.

In 1970, Julian Goddard, joined his brother in openly protesting the “outdated colonial law”, that prohibited steelbands from parading on the streets at Christmas, referring to the steelbands as “beating noisy instruments”. Nine steelbands members were charged on December 20, 1970, and were represented by the Association's legal adviser, Charles Tyson, Esq., who disputed the claim that the instruments were “noisy”.

Steelbands' Greatest Leader

July 10, 2010 General by George D. Goddard

Steelband performers in Trinidad and Tobago (steeldrum’s birthplace) since 1950, have been represented by three organizations: the Steelbands Association, the National Association of Trinidad and Tobago Steelbandsmen (NATTS), and (now) Pan Trinbago.

One man served as the head of all three. George “Sonny” Goddard (1924-1988).

Why wont Pan Trinbago

Why wont Pan Trinbago "sell or promote" the ONLY book published by a former President (George "Sonny" Goddard)?

To the current President,

Do you have an answer to this, and to why George's legacy is disrespected by Pan Trinbago?

“In order to understand the Panorama one needs to get an historical hold on the literature about the steelbands. I would recommend Mr. George Goddard’s (past president of the then Steelband Association) excellent book called “Forty Years in the Steelbands” (1991) where he outlined his experiences in the steelband association and the many obstacles he faced as president of the association, which was the precursor organization to Pantrinbago…It is interesting to note that Pantrinbago does not sell or promote this book (the only one published by a Steelband president) on its web site.” (Source: http://www.pan-jumbie.com/tishof/tishof1.htm)
